Wooden Boat School

Nestled in this beautiful 64-acre coastal campus is the famed Wood Boat School, where the public can enroll in a week-long course to learn the trade of wooden-boat building from some of the most skilled boat builders.  The campus includes a gift store that has many wonderful gifts and clothing items to remember your stay in Brooklin.  Brooklin, 3.8 mi.

Handmade Papers Gallery: 

Gigi Sarsfield is the proprietor of this wonderful store that sells handmade papers and attractive lamps following the tradition of oriental, art papermaking. Gigi also carries the paintings and other artwork of local artists. If you are in search for that one-of-a-kind handmade gift, this is a place to visit. Located at 113 Reach Road across from Odd Fellows Hall.  Brooklin 1.9  mi.

Leaf & Anna: 

Located directly next to the Brooklin General Store, Leaf & Anna has about everything that one could want to remember their Maine vacation. A wonderful shopping experience.  Brooklin, 2.3 mi.

Naskeag Point

Public boat launch and beach.  A great place to go for a picnic, swim, walk your dog, launch a kayak and watch the local lobsterman return with a day’s catch.  Brooklin, 6 mi.

Barred Island

To some, this 28-acre preserve, once owned by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Olmstead, is one of the best, most picturesque hikes in the area. Pack a backpack for a picnic and bring a towel and swimsuit.  This 2-mile roundtrip hike will take you through a beautiful coastal pine ecosystem blanketed with emerald-green mosses.  Deer Isle, 17.7 mi.

Friend Memorial Library: 

Across from the Brooklin General Store, the Friend Memorial Library is a welcoming place to take your kids to find a book to read or game to play. Or visit the library to view the work of local artists or attend a talk by a local author. Link to local calendar of events: HERE  Brooklin, 2.3 mi.

Wooden Boat Store: 

One cannot visit Brooklin without stopping in at the gift shop to buy a tee shirt, sweatshirt, or coveted Wooden Boat hat. You can also peruse the nautical gifts and gear that are central to the Store’s mission. For directions, take a right at the Brooklin Store on Naskeag Drive and 1.1 miles take a right onto Great Cove Drive. Wonderful campus to walk around and view the spectacular craftsmanship of local boat builders.  Brooklin, 3.9 mi.

Harriman Point

This 138-acre preserve is a local treasure and a great place for hiking, beach-coming, birdwatching or walking your dog.  Brooklin, 5.2 mi.

Holbrook Island Sanctuary

This sanctuary, with 7.5 miles of trails, offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore an incredibly diverse ecosystem whose future is being shaped by natural forces rather than human hands.  Brooksville, 15 mi.

Whether you want to paddle along the shore in beautiful Buck's Harbor, day sail the beautiful and historic Eggemoggin Reach, or head out and enjoy all that Penobscot Bay has to offer, renting a motorboat, sailboat, or paddle board from this family-owned business is simple and easy. Jon and Jessica Buck, and their kids, who work the marina, know how to provide great service with a smile and neighborly touch. The Marina also sells great merch. Buck’s Harbor is also the setting of the classic children's book “One Morning in Maine,” by Robert McCloskey. Brooksville, 10.9 mi.
